Art Bar SEXYLAND with Farida Sedoc

Art Bar is back! On Wednesday 28 January we welcome Farida Sedoc behind the bar at the legendary Café De Duivel.
Farida Sedoc is a visual artist from Amsterdam who works across different media, in both two- and three-dimensional forms. Her work is closely connected to the ideology of street culture, where the city and its residents meet and where intersectionality is constantly questioned. In her work, Sedoc explores cultural exchange and the influence of economics, heritage, and politics on the future of globalism and community life. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Van Abbemuseum. Sedoc is also the founder of her own brand, Hosselaer.

Art Bar SEXYLAND is a café you go to on Wednesdays when you’re stuck in your ideas—to chat about art or show your work to a renowned artist or curator from the field who, for this evening, is your bartender. It gives emerging (or not-so-emerging) artists the chance to ask these artists questions in a safe way, without sitting in a typical Q&A setting—because they’re simply standing behind the bar. The motto is bad bartenders, great ideas, so the awkwardness is shared by all of us. From Raquel van Haver, Renzo Martens, Judikje Kiers, Zippora Elders, Wolfgang Tillmans, to Kenneth Aidoo, Iriée Zamblé, and Beatrix Ruf—each edition features a seasoned artist or curator who pours you terribly tapped beers but gives you brilliant ideas.
This time, Art Bar takes place at Café De Duivel, Amsterdam’s most iconic hip-hop bar and a cultural hotspot that has been deeply rooted in the city’s nightlife since 1992. For decades it has been an important meeting place for artists, music lovers, and the wider creative community.
